Perfect Spring Wedding Day Weather
Saturday 26th March was one of those rare early spring days that just takes your breath away. Blue skies, golden sunshine, and the kind of warmth that feels more like May than March. It couldn’t have been more perfect for a wedding. And not just any wedding, Kimberley and Matt’s beautiful celebration at Nonsuch Mansion in Surrey.
As a wedding photographer usually based in Hertfordshire, this was my first time at Nonsuch Mansion. And honestly, I fell in love with it almost instantly. There’s something very special about discovering a new venue. I love the fresh inspiration, new light to work with, and the thrill of creating something unique in a new space. From the moment I stepped onto the grounds, I knew this was going to be a day to remember, not just for the couple, but for me too.
First Impressions of Nonsuch Mansion
Set in the heart of Nonsuch Park, this gorgeous Grade II listed Georgian house feels tucked away and peaceful, yet it’s still close to London and easily accessible. The approach alone is impressive, with long tree-lined paths, birdsong, and the sort of grand entrance that makes your heart skip a beat.
Nonsuch Mansion has a kind of quiet charm that’s hard to put into words. The architecture is stunning. Elegant yet warm. Historic, but still modern where it matters. Inside, there’s a lovely blend of ornate period features and fresh, contemporary touches. Tall ceilings, big windows, rich wood floors, it all works together beautifully, especially in photographs. There’s soft, flattering natural light everywhere, which is a dream for me as a photographer.
Outside, the gardens are magnificent. Perfectly kept lawns, flowering trees, and hidden pockets of greenery that are ideal for couple portraits. I had visited a few weeks earlier with Kim and Matt to scout out some photo locations, and I was genuinely excited to bring those spots to life on the day. Nonsuch gives you so much variety in a single space, and that means you get a wedding gallery filled with texture, light, and personality.
The Morning of the Wedding
I arrived early in the morning, just as the sun started warming the stone steps outside the mansion. Inside, Kim was getting ready with her sister, who was also her bridesmaid. This part of the day is one of my favourites because it’s full of anticipation, laughter, and those quiet, meaningful moments between close family members. The bridal suite at Nonsuch is lovely and spacious, with huge windows that let in loads of natural light, perfect for those soft, intimate getting-ready shots.
There’s something really special about being there for the full story. From hair and makeup to the moment the dress goes on. From the giggles and nerves to the quiet when Kim’s dad walked in and saw her for the first time. That moment was full of emotion; he was beaming with pride, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. These are the in-between moments that often become favourites in a couple’s gallery.
While I was with Kim, my second photographer was outside with Matt and his best man. They arrived looking sharp, but you could feel the nerves bubbling under the surface. That mix of excitement and nervous energy is contagious, and again, great for storytelling photos. Guests began to gather in the gardens, soaking up the spring sunshine. The whole place buzzed with warmth and happiness.
The Ceremony
The ceremony room at Nonsuch Mansion is gorgeous. It was beautifully decorated with soft florals, candles, and thoughtful details that brought the space to life. As the clock ticked closer to 2 pm, there was a hush that fell over the crowd. Laughter turned to whispers. Eyes turned to the door. And then Kim appeared, walking down the aisle with her dad. Matt’s face when he saw her, pure joy, awe, and love all in one glance. It was one of those moments that you feel lucky to witness, let alone photograph.
The ceremony was everything a wedding should be: relaxed, emotional, and full of heart. The sun poured through the tall windows, bathing everyone in soft golden light. It was a joy to capture the smiles, the tears, and the little glances between Kim and Matt as they made their promises.
The Celebration
After the ceremony, guests spilled out into the gardens. There’s something so lovely about an outdoor drinks reception, people chatting with champagne in hand, kids running across the lawn, laughter rising into the air. I always take this time to capture relaxed, candid moments. Real expressions. Real emotion. Nothing staged, just everyone enjoying the day.
We also took the couple off for a short portrait session, exploring the gardens and a few of the hidden corners around the venue. These quiet walks are often a chance for the couple to catch their breath and soak in the fact that they’re finally married. And they’re some of my favourite photos of the day, natural, joyful, just the two of them together.
The wedding breakfast followed, with heartfelt speeches that had everyone laughing (and a few happy tears too). The dining room at Nonsuch has a cosy, intimate feel, even with a full room of guests. After the meal came the first dance, romantic and full of energy, and then the party truly kicked off.
