A Stunning Wedding Venue
Recently, I was lucky to be booked for an engagement photo shoot at the stunning Stoke Place. It’s a delightful wedding venue close to Windsor. My couple and I had a blast!
Are you already engaged and starting to plan the big day? I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of professional photographers offering engagement shoots, either as part of their overall package or as an add-on. I expect you’re wondering what this is all about. Is it worth doing? I can appreciate your hesitation. However, I’m hoping to persuade you to go for it! I want to share with you a few reasons why I think an engagement photo shoot is such a brilliant thing to do:
It’s a Great Way to Experience Being In Front of a Camera.
A lot of people are camera-shy and feel nervous or uncomfortable at the thought of having their picture taken. Likewise, some people love being in front of a camera! If you are a little apprehensive, though, an engagement photo shoot is a great way to help you feel more relaxed when having your picture taken. You get to experience the fun side of being photographed, a perfect dress rehearsal for your big day!
Getting to Know Your Photographer
You may have already had a meeting or two (or video call) with your photographer. Hopefully, you feel comfortable in their presence. However, having an engagement photo shoot gives you both a chance to get to know your wedding photographer well, and vice versa. By booking a couple’s photo shoot, you are giving yourselves quality time with them, something that will pay off on your wedding day!
Your investment will certainly reflect in your wedding photos on your special day, because you will have a better understanding of how your photographer works when they have a camera in their hands. It’s also a great opportunity to build up more of a personal relationship with your photographer. This, in turn, will make the picture taking a lot more fun on your wedding day. It’s a win-win situation. The more relaxed you are when you’re having pictures taken, the more natural you’re going to look.
An Engagement Photo Shoot Doesn’t Just Have to be the two of you!
This is also a great opportunity for you to get some lovely photos of those closest to you. If you have children, then bring them along and get some lovely family photos. Or, why not bring the dog with you? After all, they’re family too, and may not be allowed at your wedding. You see, an engagement photo shoot gives you a great excuse to get a selection of professional photos of you having fun with those closest to you, as well as some beautiful shots of you as a couple.

Having a set of photos taken before the big day, when you’re still a couple, is a great way for you to add to your love story. It will show how this chapter of your life unfolded before your wedding day. Engagement shoots make for relaxed and fun photos, so this is a perfect opportunity to get some lovely images of you both. These photos and, in fact, your whole engagement photo shoot, can be as relaxed and informal as you like.
You may wish to involve some hobbies you share, for example, or you may wish to make it romantic, with a picnic! Ultimately, it is also a chance to dress up and have some stylish fashion photography shots, too. At the end of the day, it is your shoot. You decide what style you like, what sort of photos you want, and who else you want to be involved.
Photos for your Wedding Day
Even if you think this is just a practice run for your wedding day, you will get some beautiful photos of you as a couple. While these are fantastic for sharing with family and friends, they’re also brilliant for use in your wedding preparations. For example, you may wish to create save-the-date cards from them, invitations, or use them on the day itself. They really are very versatile!
